Bank of America Student Leaders Lead the Way
August 2022
Our summer wouldn't be complete without working with our Bank of America Student Leaders. Each year we host a group of high school students who are passionate about gaining first-hand experience in serving their community. We loved having our Student Leaders engage in our work by supporting Club programs and learning about the daily operations of a nonprofit organization. Keep an eye out for Shalu, Joshua, Athena, and Abhi - they are on their way to accomplishing great things! Pictured here with Board Member Lori Rianda.

Getting Creative!
July 2022
Club kids at our summer camp at Sierra Vista had a blast during a social-emotional learning lesson that had them drawing all over their backpacks! But not just any backpacks, ChalkWild backpacks are made special for kids to be able to show off their creativity. Club members were first given a theme to draw, such as giving back to their community, then were challenged to add specific elements to express emotions, and finally practiced drawing techniques that made a background for their designs. And as an added bonus, they got to keep their backpacks to draw on all year long!

The coming months are going to be fun and busy with the opening of three new Club branches that have been in the works for the past couple of years– Sierra Vista Branch in Stockton, Rancho Cordova Youth Center, and our Woodland Branch! Combined, these new facilities will serve 500 additional Club kids and teens each year, with hundreds more youth supported through outreach programs. With greater access to high-quality afterschool programs, youth in these communities are better able to get homework help as needed, play sports, and plan for their futures in a safe, supportive environment.
Watch a sneak peek of the finishing touches on the Woodland Branch outdoor sports court!

Feeding Families
April 2022
Our saying at the Boys & Girls Club, whatever it takes, doesn't just apply to our programs after school. In an effort to make sure that our most at-risk Stockton youth and families have what they need over the weekend, the Boys & Girls Club distributes nonperishable food and snack boxes each week. With the support of the City of Stockton, every Thursday and Friday 325 Club youth, families, and Sierra Vista housing residents receive a Club Connect Kit that includes meals for the weekend, snack bags, and school supplies. Included with each delivery are health resources, masks, and hand sanitizer for the whole family. We are thrilled to be able to come together as a community to make sure Club youth, families, and residents are not going hungry.

Celebrating Earth Day
April 2022
We had a blast celebrating Earth Day with a fair to appreciate nature, sustainable practices, and conservation. Club youth enjoyed plant-based food, games, and music, and participated in earth-day activities with non-profits and local businesses championing the environment. Kids also had the opportunity to meet and learn about rescued wildlife. It was a beautiful spring day to spend time together outdoors! A special thank you to Jaws & Paws for organizing an amazing celebration!

Why mentoring matters
January 2022
Karina, a 7th grade Club member at our Raley Teen Center, confided in a staff member that she was having difficulties with a friend at school. She was upset about her friend’s actions and didn’t know what to do about the situation. Her Club mentor encouraged her to think about the lessons they were discussing during the Be A Star program, a social-emotional-based approach to address bullying, and helped her identify strategies for how to express her feelings. Karina worked up the confidence to talk with her friend about her behavior and told her how it made her feel. In the end, the two girls parted ways as friends, but Karina said that she would rather have friendships that were positive in her life. Club mentors are here to help youth build the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of their lives.

Celebrating greatness through art
January 2022
Thursday afternoons at our Teichert Branch are a time to get creative during art class with Ms. Marisol. Club youth explore various art mediums and projects that tie into larger themes they are learning about during the month like our heroes, culturally significant holidays, and all the ways diversity makes us great. In January, Club kids painted portraits of Martin Luther King Jr. and put their unique touch on what his profound words mean to them. Kids also made their own dragons as a way to learn about and celebrate the Chinese New Year.
